Current Turkish gallows humour: A prisoner goes to the prison library, asks for a specific book. The guard tells him, "we don't have that book... but we do have the author."
I’m told when a tweet blows up you’re supposed to promote yourself somehow. I guess there’s my SoundCloud (m.soundcloud.com/moshik-temkin) but I tweet mostly about things that interest me as a political historian. Welcome new followers!

Now that I'm finally at work, let me tell you about the fucked up scam call I got this morning.

Someone called this AM, claiming that my dad was just in a car accident. Specifically that he was backing out of a gas station and had hit this person's nephew.
Well the nephew's dad had previously been brought up on murder charges (this is important in a second) didn't want to involve the police in the accident and just wanted my dad to "make things right" and pay medical bills.
As the story goes, my dad still wanted to call the police, so the caller tells me they've taken my dad hostage and taken his phone. And that my dad told them to call me and that I could help "make things right."
