Started out as an Intellectual Property Lawyer then a Maritime Lawyer then an Oil & Gas Lawyer and now an Energy & Gender Consultant. New beginnings are lit 🔥
I’ve been able to be so flexible in my career because I don’t really do long term goals. Nothing wrong with them but I’ve always felt if I’m fixated on achieving a particular goal in say five years and stick to strategically positioning myself to achieve it
it blinds me to other opportunities that may even get me to my goal faster. Also in the event that I don’t achieve that goal, I might feel like a failure not acknowledging the fact that I may have been better at other things but chose to ignore them...
because I stayed focused on one thing. So I’ve always focused on the now, what do I want to achieve in the short term, then I do just that.
My career is so reflective of this open mindedness and willingness to change. I did trial law, arbitration, IP, maritime, oil & gas, entertainment law, FGMG, fashion, blogging, tv shows, journalism, mentorship, capacity building, training
Moved to three countries in two years. Worked in countries that were literally in the middle of wars, places I couldn’t speak the language. Led teams I had to work with through translators. Literally anything I gained an interest in, I did it and did it well.
And all these divergent interests, have somehow never derailed me from my true purpose of effecting social change but have all acted as stepping stones to the next opportunity.
And now I’m entering a new frontier of energy access and combating gender based violence. They may seem like they’re at two completely opposing ends but my work now is to connect the two and I’ve never felt more gratified and inspired.
Entering the international development space, training teams based on my career life experiences, international speaking appearances on everything from energy to empowerment to leadership...I’m the author of my own story and captain of my own ship and it’s been a hell of a ride.
