The AUDACITY: a thread

Came across this post on my FB timeline from another Pastor I know and have a great deal of respect for.

And it *literally* made my jaw drop. Not because of the political opinions expressed. I knew he held those. But the sheer lack of humility. 1/11
I understand that there are people with *very* different political philosophies than me. I'm okay with that. We need diversity of thought.

But let me walk you through the levels of jaw-drop.

1) brother said demon-crats (nevermind Jude 3, right?). How old are we? 2/11
Mind you, my voter registration is NPA, so I'm not picking sides. But that's childish.

2) Man said "some unlearned, young in the faith believers who may not know better." You don't get to imply that others are ignorant while you endorse the party of president p-grabber. 3/11
3) "it's hard to believe that anyone that professes Christ can and do line up a party that... promotes abortion, home sexuality, and same sex marriage"

Fair point. But uh... see above tweet in thread. 4/11
4) "If this offends you, well, I FORGIVE YOU." (emphasis mine)

Man, WHAT?! YOU forgive the OFFENDED? I missed that "blessed are the haughty" beatitude. 5/11
5) "Please don't write back...just delete me from your Facebook"

First, that's not a problem. Done. But also, if you do not leave room for error in your theology, you are doing it wrong. NONE of us get it all right. And you ought to be open to discussion. 6/11
Did all of this bother me because I'm a Democrat? Nah. Again. I'm not a Democrat.

It bothered me because my job, as a Minister of the Gospel, is made WAY more difficult by arrogant church leaders and loud, combative Christians. 7/11
It also bothered me because that is the logic of oppressive Christianity.

"Don't debate me" Christians fought for the preservation of slavery in America.

"Don't debate me" Christians told their friends that a war to preserve slavery was a just war. 8/11
"Don't debate me" Christians are/were the backbone of the Ku Klux Klan.

"Don't debate me" Christians fought FOR segregation.

"Don't debate me" Christians OVERWHELMINGLY voted for DONALD JOHN TRUMP to occupy the highest office in the land. 9/11
"Don't debate me" Christians don't want to be debated because they cannot defend their stances logically or biblically beyond their indoctrinated talking points.

"Don't debate me" Christians ought not be debated because they often can't think for themselves. 10/11
There are millions of Americans (and people throughout the world) who cannot & will not hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ because of "don't debate me" Christians.

I just wanted y'all to know that because Jesus was willing to die for y'all, I'm willing to be wrong. Debate me. Fin.
*should read Jude 9, not Jude 3
