a cool thing that happened today / a thread:

so my cat kitty pryde started loudly meowing, she seemed really distressed. i’d never seen her like that before so i was worried. she jumped up on the living room window still meowing so i walked over and looked out the window.

turns out kitty was alerting me to a tiny distressed kitten who was on top of some very high steps in a neighbours backyard. it looked really young, and was meowing as loud as it could to get some help. i literally panicked and grabbed my keys and my phone and ran around

i tried to call out to the kitten from my backyard, but it didn’t respond. i thought maybe it was too high up or too freaked out to notice. here is the kitty. very smol.

so i walked around and knocked on all the doors on this building. no one home. no side gate so i just walked through into the backyard. breaking and entering i guess but the kitten!! needed!! help!! i looked up at my own window and kitty was still staring out at the kitten. bless

i walked up the stairs and the kitten was all curled up in a scared ball. it hadn’t noticed me. i tried saying hello to calm it, in case it was freaked out, but it just lay there. so i reached out and gave it some pats, and it started crying and literally lept into my arms.

i gave it so many cuddles, and it finally calmed down a bit. looked over at kitty in the window whose eyes were HUGE like omg i can’t believe the bitch did it!

i started walking to our local vet to get kitten’s microchip checked and to see if it was okay.

halfway there, i saw a poster just saying ‘lost: tiny white cat. please return her, she’s very special’ with a number. i called it, and the bloke on the other end said he lived close, and said he’d come meet me. by this point kitten is curled up in my arms purring.

the bloke meets me and nearly bursts into tears. he tells me her name is mimsy, and she’s deaf. he got her recently, and he’d taken her outside to go to the bathroom early this morning, and he’d looked away for a second and she was gone. he looked for hours, to no avail

he was calling out but obviously she can’t hear him. but that’s why she wasn’t responding me to calling, and was trying to loudly meow - so her owner would hopefully hear her.

he told me he fell in love with her because he’s disabled and hearing impaired too, and he connected with her straight away. he knew he had to adopt her and look after her.

he told me that he’s on a disability pension, and became upset when he told me he couldn’t offer me a reward for finding her. he said he’ll be getting paid next week, so he’ll be able to then. we were both getting really teary, just standing on the street.

i told him i don’t want any money, i’m just glad she’s home. but i would like to be mimsy’s friend, and come and see her for a cuddle and give her some treats now and again. the bloke seemed really stoked with that, and agreed.

we exchanged numbers, he gave me a hug and thanked me again, i gave mimsy another little kiss on her little snoot, and we parted ways. so that’s how i became friends with a deaf kitten called mimsy, and her owner.

i don’t have any photos of the little baby, but i will next time i visit her. instead, here is a photo of kitty pryde being a protective mumma cat after discovering the scared kitten. she never left the window, so to make sure she was okay. well done, kitty pryde, my little hero.

1 yep kitty pryde is named after x-men, my partner @chimichangus chose it when he adopted her 10 yrs ago 😍
2 gofundme is a gr8 idea but mimsy’s owner would be mortified by idea i think. i’ll ask tho!!
