The allegations in the programme around the DUP centred on a recording made by @marcusleroux of an interview with the DUP's Treasurer in which the latter admitted taking no interest in the source of the donation, contrary to section 56 of PPERA.
What did the Electoral Commission do? Well, the very next day they wrote to the DUP. But did they ask questions? Did they say they were considering the allegations? They did not. jolyonmaugham.files.wordpress.com/2018/09/electo…
What they did, according to their own notes, was write to "GC" Gregory Campbell, the DUP's Treasurer re "understanding of his role". No suggestion of any investigation.
Did they ask @marcusleroux for the key recording? Did they obtain a copy from the BBC? They did not.
Because by the very day after the programme was broadcast, they had apparently already closed their mind to an investigation. So when did this alleged "thorough review" take place, @ElectoralCommUK? How did you conclude it overnight? Why did you not ask for the recording?
What did the alleged "thorough review" consist of? Because you're going to have to explain it to the High Court.
