on vacuum cleaner youtube today folks
i envy the person who has enough space to collect vacuum cleaners or washing machines, things made with belts and shafts and bearings that you can actually get excited about owning and repairing and using
i'd throw all my computers away forever if i could fill a barn with broken kirbys and just fix one after another and give them away to friends. this is what peak performance looks like,

nobody in my peer group owns a house, will own a house, or will own a house with wall to wall carpets
this guy dumps dust on his floor in order to have something to vacuum up so he can play with his vacuums. but presumably he vacuums his house so often, being a vacuum nerd, that it's spotless. one wonders if he has been picking up and redepositing the same dust since 1996
he must have Seed Dust. imagine if someone came into his house and threw out his dust. he'd be DEVASTATED. "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TEST ANYTHING NOW? I CAN'T JUST *GET* DUST"
he'd be right too; if a friend asked you for a bag of vacuum cleaner dust you'd move to the furthest country away from wherever they are

i decided to play with pygame a little. i created a sprite subclass, instantiated it and put it in a sprite list, and when i kill() it it never gets garbage collected so the program is instantly uselessly memory-leaky
this is 100% of my experiences trying to do anything interesting with code. i immediately hit a brick wall like this and i have no idea where to begin figuring it out, or if the helper library is fundamentally broken
i swear to god the only time in my life i ever got a *single inch* into this is when the only library i was using was SDL. if i use anything fucking else, i just spend endless hours trying to figure out the bizarre mentality of someone elses library instead of doing actual work

been watching a lot of speedruns and thinking again about how the way they break apart game design challenges my assumptions about how games are made
in the NES era in particular, I had always assumed that monsters were almost 100% RNG. it turns out they're more like 0% RNG. I'm not sure *why* I assumed that, because I knew better
When the NES was my only console, I played a small handful of games countless times. I never got good at any of them but for the parts I knew, I never got surprised. I would get my ass kicked by enemies I *knew* were coming.

This morning I've finished Scott Kellys (@StationCDRKelly) Book "Endurance" ( bit.ly/endurance-scot… ). Some thoughts below.
First, thank you Scott for sharing your story along with many personal insights from your time in space. It's great to learn more about the long path to become an astronaut and all the immense effort behind the human space program.
While reading Scotts book I got to understand the scale of the challenges coming with living and working in space better. It starts with having no gravity assisting you with daily life, keeping yourself healthy and alert for the hostile environment you are living in.

I am going to base all of this on Ruth Schwartz Cowan’s 1983 book More Work for Mother: The Ironies of Household Technologies from the Open Hearth to the Microwave.
Housework is the first form of labor humans are exposed to and through most of western history, it is the sector of work to which women have been delegated. The key transformation was the arrival of the Industrial Revolution to the home in the late 19th century.

One of the accusations against JD is that he moved production to Malaysia back in the early days.
Many counter that with the story that he was refused planning permission to expand, so moved abroad 2/n
This thread won't be about Brexit & Dyson now, but will tell the truth about what happened back then.
On the day Gordon Brown opened an extension to Dyson factory, which employed 800 making vacuum cleaners (& washing machines), JD unveiled plan for a second factory.
