I have been waiting patiently & with barely baited breath for someone.. anyone to provide a single benefit to me & mine of #Brexit..
The question has been asked of many MPs & talking heads on both sides of the debate…❓

And…. Not a scrap, not a trace, not a single little whisper of how I, & people like me, will be “better off” due to UK leaving EU SM and CU.. 🤔

And I don’t just mean financially before anyone comes at me brandishing a hair shirt & self-flagellating.. 🔨🔨

1. There seems to be a lot of talk (both from the right & left) that Italy should/must/will leave the Euro.

Here's a little thread explaining why in any sane world this wont happen.
2. When Italy joined Euro its Govt debt service costs dropped from 12% to 5% of GDP and inflation fell. This is massive

Unlikely as the fact may strike you Italy benefitted greatly from this.

So why is there a problem & why the talk of leaving the euro?

3. Unfortunately like Greece, rather than using extra money liberatted from saving on debt service to slowly reduce its debts, Italy used this benefit to just borrow more cheaply.

This was relatively OK while world economy fine but when global crisis hit, Italy had no buffer.

Having been accused of “No attempt at serious analysis” of David Davis’s speech yesterday, let’s do some then, shall we.

The headline quote from the speech - trailed by the UK Government *before* it was delivered - was to not “putting politics above prosperity”.

To even choose such a line is odd. The UK Brexit referendum was a vote to do *precisely* that.

Whether right to put politics above prosperity is every individual’s call to make, but it is pretty hard to say the economic case won the referendum.

But to make that the centre piece of a speech to an intelligent audience in Germany is embarrassing.

What #Brexit mandate did the Ref. result give UK govt?

52/48% - a mandate to pursue leaving. That means investigating & analysing consequences of different scenarios, but not the pursuit of any one of them. 1/
But a narrow mandate - no super majority. This requirement was discussed in Parliament pre Ref. and rejected bcs Ref was only ADVISORY. 2/
