Trump thinks the synagogue killings, because anti-Semitic, have nothing to do with him—just because he hasn’t singled out Jews for attack. He doesn’t understand that he has unleashed permission for every kind of race and ethnic-based violence. (1)
It’s significant that the gunman was especially enraged by organizations that aid refugees, and also ranted about the Caravan. He used Nazi imagery of infestation and invasion. He saw “white america” as under attack by “others.” His world is one of “us” and “them.” (2)
This is thinking that Trump encourages @ every rally. His scripted calls for unity are betrayed every day by his incitements to divide and turn groups against each other. I hope the msm isn’t fooled by his pretense, or let him off the hook because he has a Jewish son-in-law. (3)
I’m Jewish. I knew it was only a matter of time before the anti-Semitism that is always rumbling under the surface was unleashed along with the other hatreds that Trump feeds. The poisons were already there, but he’s pumped people up to let them flow freely. (4)
Armed guards in temples & schools? Not only a bad idea, but a deflection. This is more than a gun issue. It’s about the rise of an unhinged, authoritarian hate-mongerer. The msm should not dilute awareness of that danger with distracting debates or false equivalences. (5)
