This is a thread about the cities and towns in #Galmudug state of #Somalia. On this thread, we (GSD team) will post pictures and information about the cities and towns across Galmudug state.
From the East coast to the southern state border (Galmudug state - Hirshabelle state border), then from the western border (Ethiopia - Somalia border) to the Northern state border (Galmudug state - Puntland state border).
1) #Hobyo also known as the heart of #Somalia is an ancient port city located in the central mudug region of Somalia. During the 13th century hobyo served as one of the strategic trading hubs of the Ajuran sultanate -First picture circa 1925.
2) #Harardhere is an ancient agricultural town in the mudug region of Somalia. During the 14th century harardhere along with other agricultural towns in southern Somalia used to send their goods to coastal cities like Mogadishu and Hobyo for trade.
3) El Dher (Ceeldheer) is an agricultural town in the #Galguduud region of #Somalia. the town was established in The 1930’s after the ancient coastal city of mareeg was abandoned due to Italian and British fightings off the coast of mareeg.
4) El Bur is an old historical town which has been inhabited since at least the 13th century, it is located in the Galguduud region of Somalia. El buur is known for quarrying. Sepiolite is used to make dabqaad (incense burner) and Burjiko (charcoal burning stove).
Dabqaad and Burjikos made in el buur are exported to as far as Ethiopia and Djibouti.
5) Guriceel is the commercial capital of the Galguduud region of Somalia and southern most city of Galmudug. Guriceel is a major trading center of Somalia due to its strategic location, the city serves as a bridge that connects the Southern part of Somalia to the rest of Somalia.
6) Balanbale is a developing town located in the galguduud region of Somalia near the Somalia - Ethiopia . in 1982 due to its proximity to the border, the town was occupied by Ethiopia up until 1988. The town's economy relies on livestock trading.
7) Cabudwaaq is a city in the galguduud region of Somalia, the city is the western most city in Galmudug state located near the Ethiopia - Somalia Border. The city provides services to as far as the Somali state and many villages relay on its services.
8) Galinsoor is a town located in the border between Galguduud and mudug regions, The town's name derived from two Somali words: Gelin and Soor. Gelin means either "half of the day"; Soor means "hosting guests". Thus, Galinsoor refers to a place where guests were hosted.
9) Galkacyo is one of the largest and oldest cities in Galmudug state, the city serves as the capital of mudug region. Galkacyo is also of the largest cities in Somalia both economically and by area.
10) Adado located in the galguduud region of Somalia is one of the largest cities in Galmudug state and the seat of the state parliament. Adado in recent times developed rapidly and is one of the economic powerhouses in the state, located in the center of the state.
11) Dusmareb is the capital city of Galmudug state of Somalia and the administrative capital of the central galguduud region of Somalia. Dusmareb is one of the fastest developing cities in Somalia especially after Galmudug state officially moved to Dusmareb in late last year.
