Thread on DOD/DHS press conference today dealing with securing the border. This is the DOD response. For border patrol response see previous thread.

DOD response. Commander of Northern Command speaking.

1. DOD mission is to HARDEN the southern border as well as support and enhance CBP
2. DOD's codename for this is Faithful Patriot.
3. marco sense to flow in military assets to build up southern Texas, AZ and CA
4. They will reinforce along priority points of entry...

5. ..to enhance CBP's ability to harden and secure the border.
6. SPECIFIC request for assistance is for the ACTIVE DUTY military to enhance the capacity and capabilities of CBP by providing robust military capability

7. First level of effort with CBP will be to HARDEN the points of entry. and address key gaps in areas around points of entry.
8. List of some of the capabilities the DOD is bringing to the mission.
9. US army corp of engineers, 3 highly experienced combat engineer battalions

10. with expertise in building temporary vehicle barriers and fencing. They are coming with heavy equipment. which as we speak is on its way to TEXAS
11. military planning teams which are already actively engaged with CBP
12. integrated command and control with CBP working ...

13. ...with aviation, engineering, medical and logistic resources.
14. bringing 3 medium lift helicopter companies. aircraft equipped with latest technology including enhanced optics, senors to operate at night, will bring CBP to points they need to be.

15. aircraft will be able to spot and identify groups and rapidly deploy. CBP personal as well as medvac
16. Military police units, strategic airlift,
17. right now 3 C130's and a C-17 are ready to deploy , medical units and logistical support

18. 800 soldiers are on there way to Texas right now from fort campbell, fort knox,
19. besides men and equipment DOD is bringing in critical material. enough razor wire to cover 22 miles with an additional 150 miles they can bring if needed.

20. by end of week DOD will deploy over 5,200 soldier to border just the start. plus the 2k national guard.
21. everything is covered by current law. suck it libs.

Q and A.
1. (for DOD) Why wasn't national guard forces used instead?
A) National guard operation continues. This effort Faithful Patriot brings additional capabilities/capacity

2. ask about posse comitatus will soldiers be armed?
A) everything is inline with posse/title 10

2. cont. A) units normally assigned weapons are deploying with weapons.

3. (for CBP)ABC states the caravan will dwindle and asks why this is a big deal. Is it political? (idiots)

A) Very large group much larger than last one plus we see other large groups forming.

3. cont..because of size we want to be able to handle it safely and effectively. Group has already used force to cross borders/near riots. idiot reporter asks again if it's political. CBP answers NO

4. (for CBP)What happens to those that reach American soil (reporters suck)

4. cont Answer) under existing law we will process people like we normally do. Follow up by reporter. (will you take them into custody and not return them to mexico) CBP that's an ongoing discussion. if large group we are talking with Mexico and all options/admin authority

5. (for CBP)Where are the additional Border patrol coming from ( hey let's highlight the weak points for them)
A) could pull some from Northern border and special groups. all across the country if needed.

6. (for DOD) Would you say this is a national emergency and how would you rate it on par with military efforts in Syria and Iraq ( I hate reporters)
A) President has made it clear border security is national security. Our orders are very clear.we will secure the border.

7. (for CBP) Do you have a sense of how many additional miles of fencing or barriers will be needed.
A) fortifications still being worked out

8 ( for CBP) IG report on previous caravan, lessons learned?
A) can only process a certain number at a time. that's life basically.

8. cont A) If you are seeking asylum Mexico has already offered. This is different than last time because of that
Follow up ( so how will you process this group...) its questionable depends on the size/ we will keep same procedure.

9. (For CBP) AP asks if they cross illegally between points of entry can they claim asylum...( I hate reporters)
A) the goal is to deter people from trying to cross. will apply laws in full no matter where they cross.
