[THREAD] There's a LOT of updates today around the #TrumpPutinSummit and the #MuellerInvestigation. Here's what you need to know:
Trump’s disgraceful and disloyal press conference today shows that he is a danger to us all, and that he is clearly acting on behalf of Russian, and not American, interests. Instead of confronting Putin’s threats to our democracy, he instead attacked the Russia investigation.
Putin suggested 𝙍𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙖 should join the investigation, & it should be expanded to investigate U.S. citizens. Trump should have put a stop to that idea immediately - instead he agreed it was a good idea. He had a choice between Americans and Putin, and he chose Putin. Again.
Trump’s Putin performance comes a string of indictments Friday against Russian military officials for negatively influencing our elections. The fact that Trump even went forward with the summit at all, after that evidence was presented, was reckless and a threat to our democracy.
And today, during the summit, the U.S. Justice Department arrested a Russian national, Maria Butina, living within the United States on charges that she worked to help Russia influence the U.S. elections, and that she used the NRA to do it.
This all comes on the heels of Trump’s disastrous presence at the NATO Summit. He called his meeting w/ Putin the “easiest” + bashed German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May, & London mayor Sadiq Khan. He even called the European Union our “foe.”
Nothing less than our democracy is at stake. Instead of tweeting their supposed concerns, why don’t congressional Republicans do something? Pass legislation, hold hearings, #ImpeachTrump, caucus with the Democrats to stop Trump’s agenda - literally anything.
Trump just nominated Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, who doesn’t think sitting presidents should be indicted or even criminally investigated. If the Senate is really outraged by Trump’s disgraceful behavior, they should #StopKavanaugh & #SaveSCOTUS: buff.ly/2zrN153
