Today, we looked at the life of a social media lie. We mined social posts and other datasets to look at how rapidly the baseless claim that George Soros orchestrated the migrant caravan had spread from internet obscurity to the political mainstream.

We were looking for where it attained escape velocity. And we found it. 
We also tried to talk to a lot of the people involved. As you might imagine, this was not always well-received. (And, obviously, we neither threatened nor doxxed anyone.)
(The person who texted me a picture last night of what's maybe his penis(?) - you know who you are - will hopefully seek some kind of professional help, psychological or medical or both.)
One of the ways lies like this spread - a way fantasy mutates into fact, or at least a subject of apparent debate - is when the press reports that they're false. So, we're part of this story too. ->
