and in particular, their core support, is from people who are afraid. 2/
that's been Republicans' stock in trade for the party, for generations - they've stoked fear. 3/
& what they - white, "Christian", mostly male - are afraid of most, is they might get less of the privilege that they've benefited from 4/
then they twist that thought into the idea that they're oppressed; that reducing another person's oppression, somehow hurts them. 5/
all while _still_ benefiting from some privilege. 6/
(important point: benefiting from privilege is not the same as being rich. 7/
it's the "little" things like being able to: walk at night without fear; rent an apartment; apply for a loan; 8/
drinking water that's actually safe for human consumption; ...) 9/
yes; there are _serious_ problems that most of the country - privileged or not - suffers from. 10/
no; keeping some of us down, will not make that any better. 11/
and no, demonizing some mythical other ("it's the migrants! the Jews!" etc.) does no one any good either; it harms us all. 12/fin
