I think about this a lot too. And the claim that "PC" culture or the excesses of the Left might be an important electoral factor is entirely plausible. @MattGrossmann surveyed some of the evidence for @NiskanenCenter last May and found it persuasive.

So I think we need to be strategic about things. First, how solid is the evidence that so-called PC is costing the Left political power? Second, are there ways of mitigating the damage short of jettisoning PC? And third, what are they getting in return?
My interest is mainly in #3, since I see the gains as fairly substantial. A lot of PC critics work on the assumption that the advances in liberty or justice that they support (e.g. criminal justice reform, same-sex marriage, etc.) can be neatly severed from PC. I disagree.
It's not just that you can't build momentum for criminal justice reform without "identity politics" or PC, but that any effort to beat back ID politics or PC will inevitably overshoot and/or be abused, killing off any real program for change.
In other words, I buy parts of @robbysoave and Herzog's description of the problem, but that doesn't necessarily mean I buy their solution.
(not that the concept of PC or Identity Politics makes a great deal of sense to me, but I'm setting that aside for the purposes of these tweets)
