Let's be clear about this: 'Queue-jumpers' is a demeaning and disgusting phrase to describe EU nationals who came here exercising treaty rights that British citizens also have. It's entirely deliberate, shameful and inexcusable to use this kind of language.
It's a calculated appeal to British xenophobia - aimed at stoking hatred and resentment and using immigration to drive through May's deeply-flawed Brexit plan. It's deliberately divisive - playing one group of foreigners against another in the name of 'fairness'.
It implies that the 3.4 million EU nationals living in the UK are cheats, doing something sneaky and dishonest and prejudicial to others - a suggestion that would presumably apply to Brits living in the EU if true, though May wouldn't dream of saying this.
It treats reciprocal free movement - one of the great progressive achievements of the European Union - to the status of a racist political trick, when the responsibility for limiting immigration from outside Europe into the UK is entirely due to decisions taken by UK governments.
'Skype children.' Unfair spousal reunion income thresholds. ' Colour-free' immigration controls aimed at non-white migrants. Hostile environment. Unlimited detention. Cruel and inhuman deportations. SWAT-team style immigration raids. Denying cancer treatment to migrants
All this and more - done by UK governments, supported by May when she was Home Office minister. Nothing to do with the EU. And UK governments didn't even use the 'controls' they did have regarding EU immigration - not that they were necessary.
Now May has the cold-faced, hard-nosed gall to present herself and her government-of-the-damned as arbiters of 'fairness'? Stop before I shoot myself in the face. Everytime, EVERY time UK politicians are in difficulty, they always play the immigration card.
They know it reaches the parts other subjects cannot reach, reinforcing a paranoid, malignant consensus that reduces migrants to the status of intruders, sneaks, invaders and inferiors who are only useful to 'us' if they're rich, regardless of how much the contribute to the UK.
All of which is a total, seemingly endless disgrace. And if it continues, one day the only 'queue jumpers' will be people - migrants and UK nationals - desperate to get off this toxic little island that has succumbed to its worst instincts to the point of self-destruction.
