Benedict Evans' slides on the grocery business in this link are excellent a16z.com/2018/11/16/sum… The slide on how many more SKUs there are in groceries is revealing. There is nothing quite like a global slug fest in the market for nutty chocolate spreads. mobile.reuters.com/video/2018/11/…
Another slide from Ben Evans I liked was on the increasing focus on "taste making" in addition to logistics. A part of rent paid by retailers and restaurants has always been part of customer acquisition cost (CAC) for many businesses, even though accountants may treat it as COGS.
The a16z video is about 23 minutes. Other important point made by a Ben is that addressing less tapped markets with a large TAM requires more full stack approaches and is necessarily capital intensive. The software eats the world thesis is reinforced since it is far from over.
