I almost forgot one: asylum isn’t some magic word you scream and gain entry into the United States. There is a process involving interviews and courts/judges to determine eligibility: uscis.gov/humanitarian/r…
If you are eligible it’s granted, ineligible you are deported.

Still more to add as I come across them. To the “they have to apply in the first country they get to” crowd: No they don’t, nothing in American law states that. The AG(on a case by case basis) can determine an asylum seeker needs to seek asylum in a safe third country:

Refugees ar not asylum seekers. Refugee status can only be applied for outside of the United States at an embassy whereas asylum can only be applied for on US soil: uscis.gov/humanitarian/r…
