Thread: I think the skeptical reaction in the US to the Guardian story from @lukeharding1968 strikes me as really really misplaced. Yes always be skeptical but this story looks as credible as any on the Russia investigation. 1/

First, the Guardian and Harding have been all over WikiLeaks and Assange. They’ve reported how Ecuador is souring on hosting Assange. Including this amazing story about how Assange was going to try to escape. 2/ theguardian.com/world/2018/sep…
Second, the Guardian have reported blockbuster stories w/ UK Intel sources. This April 2017 story is still an absolute must read (and I think help explains this story). 3/ theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/a…
Third, the sourcing really isn’t weak. They have multiple sources, including a “well placed” source, as well as a document from Ecuadorian intel. They clearly now have good sources now w/ Ecuador’s govt. And they have had good UK intel sources. 4/
Now great US reporters on the Russia beat like @KenDilanianNBC and @NatashaBertrand haven’t been able to confirm the story, neither the Times or Post. Dilanian just said on MSNBC his intel sources can’t confirm. 5/
On the one hand it makes sense for US reporters to not be able to confirm - the sources are likely in Ecuador and UK. 6/
But as @KenDilanianNBC noted: w/dn’t this have been shared w/ US intel? I think there is a clear explanation for this contained in this April 2017 Guardian story. theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/a… 7/
The April 2017 Guardian story reported that the head of GCHQ had info so sensitive that he went direct to Brennan in summer 2016. 8/
“GCHQ’s then head, Robert Hannigan, passed material in summer 2016 to the CIA chief, John Brennan. The matter was deemed so sensitive it was handled at ‘director level’.” 9/
If UK had intel that Trump’s campaign manager met w/ Assange, especially after the DNC emails were released, that w/d’ve been extremely sensitive. And it w/dn’t go through normal intel sharing channels but w/d go straight to Brennan who w/d likely give it to the FBI. 10/
Lastly, there definitely have been efforts to dupe reporter by feeding them crap and then hitting them for running crap (House GOP looking at you). But in this case it w/d require a pretty elaborate scam that seems pretty implausible. 12/

How did this Mideast focus come about? My guess is that Mueller began looking into the Seychelles meeting on Jan 11 w/ Erik Prince, the head of the Russian sov wealth fund, and UAE leader MBZ...and George Nader. 2/

Thread: One character that c/d reemerge in the plot is Carter Page. Yes him. He’s seen as irrelevant, even though the FBI seeing him as a Russia agent!

But the biggest tell of his relevance: Trump hasn’t used Page as a scapegoat? Instead, he’s defended him. What gives? 1/
Page has convinced everyone he’s an idiot and irrelevant. He’s no doubt an idiot but there maybe a touch of method to his madness. Think of a really dumb Keyser Soze. 2/
Not only do we know the FBI thought Page was a Russian agent (thanks Nunes!) but he’s a key figure in the dossier. He went to Moscow in July and Budapest in Sept as a campaign advisor and coordinated those trips w/ the campaign. 3/

There, according to Woodward’s account from inside the situation room, the three learn that Flynn lied to them; he did indeed talk about sanctions w/ Kislyak! Priebus and McGahn then agree he must be fired. 3/

I think the starting point for commentary like this is to say that no death of any Nigerian at the hands of bandits & criminals is acceptable or justifiable. Even a single death is one too many. And one of the primary responsibilities of any Govt is security. That’s not in doubt.
So, this matter of ‘No Arrests No Prosecutions.’ It’s very far from true. The simplest of Google searches puts the lie to it.Also the Police regularly put out statements on large-scale arrests. I’ll share more links as part of this thread. This from Kaduna google.com/amp/s/punchng.…
