THREAD: It looks increasingly likely that Pence, Priebus, and McGahn knew about the Trump campaign’s collusion w/ Russia as early as Feb 2017. This is not hyperbole. Compare the Woodward book Fear w/ Mueller’s documents. 1/
The Woodward book says Pence, Priebus, and McGahn gathered in the Situation Room to read the transcripts of Flynn’s calls w/ Kislyak in Feb 2017. 2/ amazon.com/Fear-Trump-Whi…
There, according to Woodward’s account from inside the situation room, the three learn that Flynn lied to them; he did indeed talk about sanctions w/ Kislyak! Priebus and McGahn then agree he must be fired. 3/
But what’s left out in this account is that when they read the transcripts they w/d have also seen what Mueller saw: information related to collusion. 4/
Mueller revealed that these calls contained information that was “MATERIAL to the FBI’s investigation into the nature of any links or coordination b/w the Russian govt and individuals associated w/ the Trump CAMPAIGN.” 5/
Pence, Priebus, and McGahn w/d’ve also seen that information. So what did they know and when did they know it? Well, in Feb 2017 it looks like the VP Pence, CoS Priebus and WH Counsel McGahn learned that the Trump campaign did indeed conspire w/ Russia. 6/
But what do they do after reading the transcripts? They don’t quit, or sound the alarm. They create a cover story! 7/
To justify Flynn’s firing they tell the public Flynn has been fired for lying to them about “sanctions.” This story unsurprisingly fails to mention the most important reason for firing him. 8/
But this cover story also looks like a clear lie. In the indictment from last year, Mueller makes clear that Flynn coordinated his calls w/ the Trump Transition team. It was even reported that Kushner directed Flynn to contact Kislyak. 9/ bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
So this wasn’t just Flynn going rogue. He coordinated his comments with Mar-a-Lago! Yet he’s fired for lying to the VP? 10/
Lastly, the whole cover story is also nonsensical. The lack of a Russian response was totally shocking. Putin not respond to 35 evictions and the seizure of Dachas just b/c Flynn said please? That’s not plausible. 11/
The Russians w/d have wanted something in return. Of course, we then know that Flynn did indeed try to remove sanctions upon entering office. themoscowproject.org/explainers/sey… 12/
So to recap the transcript of Flynn’s call with Kislyak contained bombshells about collusion. Flynn’s comments to Kislyak were coordinated w/ the transition. And he was likely engaged in a quid pro quo w/ Russia. 13/
That w/d all likely have been clear to Pence, Priebus, and McGahn when they read the transcripts. But instead they seek to cover this up and push a story out to the public that looks totally false. 14/14
