The claims against Sutton include unwanted sexual advances, medical incompetence, the maiming of women’s genitals and the preventable death of an infant lat.ms/2RRP7QN
In the course of a 30-year career, a typical California obstetrician will have malpractice awards totaling about $450,000. Court records show that Sutton paid more than double that less than 20 years into his career lat.ms/2RRP7QN
Huntington Hospital administrators were warned repeatedly about Sutton, according to interviews. One obstetrician at the hospital told us that she complained to two top officials on several occasions. The hospital declined to comment lat.ms/2RRP7QN
Unease about Sutton was so widespread at Huntington that some nurses adopted a policy of misleading him about the progress of a woman’s labor to keep him out of the delivery room for as long as possible, according to interviews w/ current and former nurses lat.ms/2RRP7QN
Sutton has denied the allegations and describes himself as a good doctor. He prevailed in the two cases brought by former patients that went to a trial.

He is no longer practicing at Huntington, but is pursuing positions at outpatient surgery centers lat.ms/2RRP7QN
