/ my talk👇 about how the btc blockchain was used to catch public corruption & money laundering -- by a pair of corrupt fed agents investigating the Silk Road who themselves extorted and embezzled. Had only fiat been used we wouldn't have caught this pair
/ people who talk about the traceability of fiat and wires often haven't had much first-hand experience w/trying to obtain bank account records increasingly held overseas and the antiquated treaty process it entails, esp in fast-moving investigations
/ fraudsters are often early adopters of great tech (internet just one example) & crypto is no exception. But view that its only real use is fraud and money laundering is naive. Fact is it's pretty easy to launder w/fiat & enforcement fails 99% of time

/ no denying there's fraud in the space, as we've been reminded w/certain ICOs and other schemes, BUT these seem to get a disproportionate amount of attention. As crypto goes more mainstream the share of transactions associated w/crime has declined, a trend that will continue
/ some view public key cryptography merely as a way to hide things, but its more widespread and important application is to sign and authenticate things
/ crypto hasn't yet had its "iPhone moment" -- as with the mobile era, infrastructure and services have to be built for it to truly take off. That's why it's important not to equate the current state of innovation in the space with the end state of innovation
