Troops out of Syria is great. But why praise the guy who deployed a record number of troops to Syria, occupied a record amount of territory & killed a record number of civilians? Like Obama in Afghanistan & Nixon in Vietnam, a withdrawal after a massive expansion isn’t “anti-war”
Trump deployed about 10 times the number of troops to Syria than Obama did; occupied 1/3 of the country; bombed the Syrian government for the first time; and not just increased airstrikes by 50%, but greater “freedom” he gave US generals increased civilian casualties by 250%!
Don’t be too quick to trust the “anti-interventionist” sentiments of an emotionless sociopath who campaigned on expanding military power, war with Islam and “finally getting Iraq’s oil”
And important to remember a reduction in regular troops doesn’t usually mean a reduction of US power & ops. Obama “scaled down” many places while increasing use of sanctions, drones, SpecOps & proxies. Troop numbers alone obscure critical details—Trump is still an imperialist pig
In Afghanistan: Trump reversed trend of Obama’s troop withdrawal & increased troops 2 years in a row. Dropped more bombs on the country in 2018 than any year in the entire war. 52% rise in civilian deaths. And despite what’s being said, dead-set on at least 2 *permanent* US bases
And before you get too excited about a supposed “withdrawal” from Afghanistan remember Trump’s most favorite plan has been to withdrawal troops so Erik Prince can deploy 5000+ of his private fascist mercenary army to take their place and slaughter everyone.
