THREAD. -1) The so called « constitutional treaty » has not been renamed the Lisbon Treaty! While a number of their provisions are the same, their political and historic significance were totally different.
-2) The « Constitutional Treaty » would politically have meant a significant step towards more integration and maybe federalism, with its name, flag, motto, anthem and some of its substantive content.
-3) See my book analysing that treaty, published by Cambridge University Press: « The Constitution for Europe: A Legal Analysis », 2006, 292 pages.
-4) The Lisbon Treaty, on the contrary, put a halt to any step towards a federalist or quasi federalist move. Not only did the « constitution », flag, motto, anthem, disappear, but some articles reduced the EU’s powers.
-5) To compare, see my book, also published by Cambridge University Press : « The Lisbon Treaty: A Legal and Political Analysis », 2010, 426 pages.
-6) This is why the so called « Constitutional Treaty » was not ratified and never entered into force while the Lisbon Treaty was ratified and is in force since December 2009.
