1) Mini-thread. Critical we all continue to make the point that Trump's border wall stance is not him keeping faith w/a promise or standing on principle, it is a monumental betrayal of his promise to build the wall without money from the American people. It is about betrayal.
2/Through nutty ideas and extreme policies, the President has taken in imperfect immigration system badly in need of reform and broken it. The "crisis" on the border is of his own making as I explain here in this @NBCNewsTHINK piece: nbcnews.com/think/opinion/…
3/The President has no ideologically acceptable options to fix the problems on the border. They are out of ideas and looking to be bailed out by adults/Dems. That Trump kept the border central after losing 2018 election is sign of his political decline.
4/Dem plan to reopen govt simple - finish the budget Trump/McConnell/Ryan were legally required to finish Oct 1st 2018, reopen the govt, make the DHS approp temporary so deal can get worked out on the border. GOP apparently turning this down despite it passing the Senate 100-0.
5/President now is acting, looking, talking crazy. He is doing things which are manifestly hurting the country and HIS OWN POLITICAL SUPPORT out of spite, anger, whatever. Budget fight not abt border but abt restoring sanity to Washington in the age of Trump. Stakes are high.
6/and this new Democratic class in the House is a glorious rainbow, a celebration of the greatness of America which is coming not just where we’ve been....
