This. THIS is the reason I have to carefully research and buy hundreds of dollars of new clothes before business travel to any new locale, before appearing on news outlets, before attending a formal event. This.

Because not even the most powerful woman in US politics is immune.
Have you heard about the 'weathergirl dress'?

It's a $25 dollar dress on Amazon, and one you have seen it you can't unsee it. Because tons of newscasters wear the same one in various colors - it fits some bizarre dress codes and on-camera requirements.

Okay so, there are only certain colors you can really wear on video. Red, white, black, and patterns like stripes don't show up on camera well. Green is no-go. So the majority of women's business attire is out, because it's all patterned crap, or colored suits.
Usually, blue is a safe bet on video and in business. However, if you have red hair like me, people are like, "MADAM YOU ARE NOT A SUMMER, you may not wear navy blue." so there are like, all these other goofy makeup / skintone / hair rules.
Then there's the mic. Typically a clip with a wire to a box. In a suit, clip to lapel, drop inside jacket to waist, clip to belt. Guess what shenanigans happen if you're wearing a dress? Oh, and you must wear statement jewelry, but not any that sparkles or rubs / clicks the mic.
Not sure why I'm sharing this, but this is part of my thought process when I speak at formal events or appear on video. International travel has a whole different set of rules on pants cut, skirt length, shoes, etc. (Fin)
