ok i finally watched this and i am floored at the bullshit that Ellen let him spout uninterrupted. He's concocting an alternative history here and Ellen didn't challenge him on the facts one bit. let me explain...
Hart: "My first thought was I'm going to ignore it. I'm going to ignore it, because it is 10 years old. And this is stuff that I have addressed. I've talked about this."

This implies you previously apologized for this. That's not true.
3 years ago, when asked about past anti-gay comments, you explicitly told Rolling Stone you would "never apologize" for your tweets.

In fact, you explicitly defended jokes about fearing your son might be gay.

“It’s about my fear. I’m thinking about what I did as a dad, did I do something wrong, and if I did, what was it?” rollingstone.com/movies/movie-n…
Again this was in 2015. Not 10 years ago. Not some ancient era. Same-sex marriage was legal when that Rolling Stone interview came out.
You did tell Rolling Stone in 2015 that you wouldn't tell that same jokes again, not because you'd evolved, but because when you said it in 2010 "the times weren't as sensitive as they are now"
BTW, that same year in 2015 you told @louisvirtel "funny is funny" when he asked you whether the homophobic comedy in Get Hard was dated.
You also seem to keep implying all these anti-gay remarks were from 10 years ago. No. You were using gay and fag and homo as slurs on Twitter until 2011 and 2012.
Again, 2011 is not some distant era when cultural views were radically different. Brett Ratner was forced out as — wait for it — Oscars producer that very year after saying "rehearsal is for fags."
I think this is the key thing here. This wasn't the one joke. This was a clear pattern for years online. "Fags" and "gays" were things to be looked down on.

In 2009, you called someone a "FAT FAG."

In 2010, you said someone looks like a "gay bill board for AIDS"
2010, btw, was the same year you said one of your "biggest fears" was your son growing up and being gay. (This is the bit you defended to Rolling Stone)
Ok, back to the Ellen interview. You said you became upset once headlines said you refused to apologize for your anti-gay words: "I'm a little upset, because I know who I am, I know that I don't have a homophobic bone in my body. I know that I have addressed it and apologized."
I mean, i think my tweets above address all this. You defended it. You didn't apologize. If there's footage of you doing so, why didn't you release that when this controversy emerged last month?
Let's revisit the day you quit as Oscars host.

"I said that I would much rather step down and apologize again while stepping down," you told Ellen. "Once again, I am sorry if these words hurt. I'm sorry. But either my apology is accepted or it isn't."
Except just HOURS before you quit, you went on instagram and specifically REFUSED to apologize.

"I chose to pass, I pass on the apology," you said (in a video in which, btw, you said you'd "addressed this" in the past but never said you'd apologized) buzzfeednews.com/article/krysti…
In fact, you said on Instagram that it was the LGBT community that was to blame.

"Stop looking for reasons to be negative...Stop searching for reasons to be angry," you wrote.
Lastly, you told Ellen that people unearthing your old tweets amounted to a concentred attack.

"To go through 40,000 tweets to get back to a 2008, that is an attack. That is a malicious attack on my character," you said. "That is an attack to end me."
To this, I can only say that Twitter has a very easy-to-use search function you might enjoy. It allows you to look for words in people's tweets without scrolling through tens of thousands of them.
And it's not at all unreasonable for the gays like me who grew up loving the Oscars might want to go back and see what you'd said about us.....just these past few years.
It would indeed be great if you now genuinely believe your past words were hurtful and these new apologies are earnest.

But don't paint yourself as the victim here, and don't twist the narrative of what actually happened.
And, Ellen, don't allow your friend to get away with that and mislead your viewers.
