Trump even while denying it. Not a few absolutely loathe him. So when Trump leaves himself vulnerable to interpretations of his spontaneous statements, that slice of the press that hates him will pounce, along with opinion journalists and Democratic politicians.

Summary of @AmbJohnBolton trip: Great reception, cooperation from Israel; testy, tense sit down in Turkey. If the Turks end up, intentionally or unintentionally, harming American troops b/c of desire to rush into northern Syria, it was be catastrophic for NATO.
Erdogan’s speech today was to party, not parliament, so perhaps it was over-the-top for local consumption. NSC spokesman @GMarquis45 noted “The US Embassy in Turkey requested a series of meetings, but due to scheduling conflicts one with President Erdogan was never confirmed.
Ambassador Bolton had conversations with his counterpart, the Deputy Defense Minister and the Deputy Foreign Minister.” So possible to over-read a “snub” here but relations with Turkey are fraught.

There's only one problem: "Victory" is not good history, to put it politely. The most basic critique is that the author didn't have access to US & Soviet archives when the book was published in 1994. You can find much harsher academic critiques online. 3/ amazon.com/dp/0871136333/…
