So i said i was gonna do a detailed thread on hyperpigmentation (dark spots).
Do you have dark spots on your face and you wonder what it is and how to make it go away? If yes pay attention to this thread and if not pls RT so it can get to someone who may need the information 😘
I’ll divide this into 3 main aspects, first i’ll explain what hyperpigmentation is, then talk about what could cause hyperpigmentation and we’ll finish up by talking about how it can be treated. Let’s get to this 😁
Hyperpigmentation is just scientific grammar for brown/dark spots which are deposits on the skin caused by an overproduction of melanin (Melanin is what gives color to our hair and skin). It can occur in specific spots or within larger patches
What brings about these dark spots? It can be caused by UV exposure, this is basically overexposure to the sun, tanning beds and fluorescent or ambient lighting. Another cause is hormones, hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, thyroid disfunction, menopause or taking oral
Contraceptives can also cause hyperpigmentation. The most common form is the post-inflammatory induced hyperpigmentation, this is big grammar for scarring caused by injury to the skin from cuts, burns and acne, yes injury to the skin from picking your pimples 😆🤨
Now that we know what causes these dark spots, we can talk about how they can be treated. It’s important to know that you must be consistent in treatment for a while before attempting to detect improvement.
First form of treatment is through exfoliation, pigment appears darker when it sits closer to the skin and so gentle exfoliation and chemical peels are very helpful in lifting the pigment and allowing it to be removed.I recommend chemical exfoliation and the type you use depends
On your skin type (dm for more info on this). A second form of treatment is by increasing cell turnover, this basically works by using topical agents such as vitamin A derivatives like Retin-A to increase the turnover rate of cells
Third, inhibiting tyrosinase production, this is another big grammar that means using products that help stop the chain reaction which lead to the deposition of melanin. Most of these products are skin brightening agents. The most common and recklessly used is hydroquinone.
I do not recommend the use of hydroquinone and tomorrow in another thread i will give safer alternatives. The last form of treatment and one of the most important is protection from UV exposure, this means USE SUNSCREEN 😭, sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 is mandatory everyday
And even if you’re not leaving your house, as long as you’re exposed to the sun you need sunscreen.
I know we all have a desire to have clear, glowing skin, i hope this helps someone struggling with dark spots. If you need more info let me know😬. Pls RT❤️❤️
