(THREAD) This thread details what we learned from Sky News' exclusive interview with Trump NatSec aide J.D. Gordon. news.sky.com/story/trump-pr…
/ Per Gordon, Trump NatSec aide Papadopoulos specifically told Trump that he (Papadopoulos) could set up a meeting between TRUMP and PUTIN.
/ It took "a few minutes" for Papadopoulos' proposal of a Papadopoulos-arranged Trump-Putin meeting (NB: presumably secret) to be tabled.
/ Per Gordon, neither he (Gordon) nor Sessions ever received *any* email from Papadopoulos regarding setting up Team Trump-Russia meetings.
/ Per Gordon, Papadopoulos targeted his emails toward (a) Trump aides not at the TIHDC on 3/31/16, or (b) rogue aides who ignored Sessions.
/ NB: We know Papadopoulos emails went to Clovis, Page, Lewandowski, Manafort, Gates, Kubic, and *at least* four other unnamed Trump aides.
/ Per Gordon, Donald Trump made all members of his campaign sign a nondisclosure agreement saying they could never reveal anything he said.
/ Gordon distantly implied he'd spoken with unnamed investigators, but would not clearly confirm or deny that he'd spoken to the FBI.
/ Gordon conceded the Russia meetings Papadopoulos wanted were "a bit shady" and said the campaign had "a lot of contacts with Russians."
/ While denying knowledge of any collusion with Russia, Gordon conceded certain members of the NatSec team shouldn't have been on the team.
/ (NB: Gordon seems to be implying neither Papadopoulos nor Page should have been allowed on Trump's NatSec team, for unspecific reasons.)
/ Gordon concedes that Trump campaign emails about the development of a Russia policy exist, as the *NatSec team* sent a number of these.
/ Gordon said he'd seen many Papadopoulos emails—and had emailed him back. (NB: This means he has or will be asked to speak with Mueller.)
/ Gordon says that—for *unspecific reasons*—the whole NatSec team felt they had to "appease and not upset" their peer George Papadopoulos.
/ Gordon said it was a "challenge" to keep Papadopoulos from embarrassing the campaign—for unspecified reasons Mueller will want to know.
/ Gordon says Clovis told Papadopoulos to go to Moscow because he was being "polite," not paying attention, or trying to make him go away.
/ (NB: This makes no sense; Clovis had received other emails letting him know Papadopoulos was SERIOUS about getting Trump to meet Putin.)
/ Moreover, WaPo reports that Sam Clovis wrote emails discussing the logistics of sending someone to Moscow. So he knew what he was doing.
/ Here's a non-exhaustive list of questions Special Counsel Mueller already has—or has not yet, but soon will, and should—ask J.D. Gordon:
