At times I think of Nigeria and the various opportunities around us that we have killed due to awoof from oil, bad policies and poor leadership. The Cotton Textile and garment industry is a typical example. This industry must be revived asap..
👇👇
We have successfully created billionaires in China, Turkey and India because of our inefficiencies and bad policies. The textile industry used to be the second highest employer of labour, second to the FG, 1.3m direct and indirect jobs.
Two decades of bad leadership led to a moribund textile industry. Job losses and revenue losses..all the textile companies in Oba Akran and Ikeja industrial layout are dead. They have been bought over by churches where my people go to pray for Jobs and blessings..
We import virtually all garments worn by Nigerians.
We import the common white handkerchiefs sold in traffic. Has anyone done a research on the quantity sold daily/monthly/ yearly at N100 and N150? Someone is China smiles to the bank each time you purchase it in traffic.
I don't want to estimate this figure, I will likely pass out. We have over 20m Nigerian students who wear the check uniform to school daily, who spend between 2000 to 5000 naira per annum on uniforms.

20,000,000 × 5000 = 100bn

We lose this to China and India yearly.
White garment churches, uniforms worn by our military and paramilitary forces. Socks worn by kids, uniforms worn by artisans..

Every weekend Nigerians gather in different expensive and imported Aso Ebis to celebrate and party but guess who will eventually smile to the bank..
The Indonesians came here, copied our African designs, went back to their country and started making batiks for us.
There is no magician, none anywhere that can create a million jobs without reviving the Textile sector.
