If @TheDemocrats don't offer a viable candidate to oppose Trump with policies and a history of those policies, that asshat will win reelection in 2020. Being "not Trump" won't be good enough. It didn't work in 2016 and it won't work in 2020. Let me explain why 👇🏾
Social media is not the real world. It just isn't. Most people on social media live in either an echo chamber, friending and following those they agree with. That's not a real representation of America. Sorry, it just isn't. 🤷🏾‍♀️
I work and live in a state that has swung in both directions on the presidential level. I do volunteer work in my local community with the homeless, the local alzheimer's foundation, and the county community center with low income families.
The thing is, no matter how vile Trump is, they don't see much difference in the past two years and the administrations before Trump....yet. I get the policies he's enacted are shit, but these people have always been struggling and see no difference, oh more cuts? Typical.
There are schools in these underfunded areas that have had programs getting cut since the 90's. Arts programs, after school programs, lunch programs, etc. They don't see any difference in crime of 2010 and 2019. They seriously don't. A lot of people I speak with don't like Trump
They just don't see him as any different.....yet (please focus on the yet). They don't see any difference in policing, their failing schools, and basic services, Flint, MI still doesn't have clean water and 1000's of other cities are the same.
Hell, there's a town in TX that hasn't had clean water in decades, yep decades theguardian.com/us-news/2017/n…
Alabama has THE WORST poverty in the developed world. Diseases that have been eradicated are coming back and floursing in cities in Alabama. newsweek.com/alabama-un-pov…
I could go on what I see and evidence but I wanted to share at least 2 articles. The biggest untapped voting block? Non voters. Why aren't these people voting? That's an entirely new thread but one of the reasons is they have nothing to vote for. They see more of the same.
Voting in America isn't a national holiday. There are always elections going on and people don't get the time off, or the services needed (transportation) to vote. Add in gerrymandering, voting laws being slashed, broken machines, etc. What else could be expected?
Voting is often a huge deal and sacrifice for people. Hourly jobs don't pay for them to stand in line for 8hrs. Then when they do they see zero change..**cough Obama, cough** nytimes.com/2016/11/21/us/…
I get it. It's much easier to fault people with no power, no money and no voice rather than those in charge with power, money and a platform. It's punching down and to most that's easier. It makes zero sense to me, but clearly it works for a lot of ya'll, its why ya'll do it.
It's better to ask why almost 50% of the eligible voters didn't vote rather than shit on 3rd party voters, or even worse, go after the "moderate republicans" like Hillary, Schumer and Pelosi did. See how well that worked out.
I gotta wrap up this long as thread. So, anywho, Trump needs to go, but Trump isn't the problem. The system is. Trump is a manifestation of the problems, not the cause. I wish it were that easy. Trump isn't a dictator, he aint doing horrible shit on his own. He needs help.
He gets that help, mainly with republicans but often with @TheDemocrats as well. Looking at you @SenSchumer and the senate dems who pushed his judicial pics..politico.com/story/2018/10/…
So in conclusion, we need a real revolution with bold, strong and steady leadership. Not the same ole, that got us in this mess. It's going to be hard to beat Trump in 2020 on platitudes. The guy never stopped campaigning w/his base. Few can take Trump on. I hope someone does.
