The Philips Avent factory in Suffolk is to close with the loss of around 500 jobs. The closure is partially Brexit related. Operations are moving to the Netherlands and to Indonesia.

And this is why amoeba-level intellects like David Davis (who airily says "let the clock run down, EU will give us more stuff") are dangerous: companies need TIME to execute plans, including contingency plans. No sensible company will wait until March 2019! This was so avoidable.

How to understand Theresa May's position...

Imagine someone with the misfortune to be standing on not one, but two land mines. Shift a bit one way, and the one under your other foot goes off, and vice versa. But stay *absolutely still*, and you get to live another day.
That's why her red lines don't shift, and why she calls EU leaders and wastes their time by repeating exactly the same thing as they've heard from her before.

Because any change at all, and the Tory party will split.

So what she needs is a way to be yanked right out of there.
One such yanking mechanism might be a GE.

Another would be an amendment that forces her to behave in a different way. She can't actively court it, but she can quietly hope for it.

But until some external factor comes into play, she's going to stay right there on those mines.

Why Theresa May might want a GE
- Chance to get rid of Bercow
- Chance to dump policies that have been neglected due to Brexit ("No, that was the *last* Parliament.")
- A few of the ERG just might be knobbled and lose their seats
- Ditto the biggest thorn in her side Remainers
- Buys a few months with a "reasonable" excuse to extend A50, rather than just "teacher, I couldn't be bothered to do my homework."
- She might win a majority (v unlikely but not impossible)
- Forces Labour to come down off the Brexit fence they've been on the last 2.5 years
- She might lose. Then she can retire into the sunset, and the dumpster fire of Brexit becomes Someone Else's Problem
- It reinforces her authority (survived Tory vote of no confidence, Labour vote of no confidence, and GE)
- Holds Tory party together a few more months

Realistically, under the current circumstances, the ongoing criminal investigations into the Leave campaigns can't stop Brexit.

To understand why, let's use a football parallel. Brexit Day is the final whistle. At that point, the result stands. The ref may face investigations.
Red card decisions may be reviewed. Additional fines or other penalties may be handed out. But the result itself stands.

Brexit's the same. Once we pass 11pm on 29 March, we're out of the EU with all that implies. There's no rewind button on international treaties.
Does that mean investigation is pointless? Heck no! Justice MUST be served,and the full force of the law thrown at the culprits.

But it won't stop Brexit. Not in the time we currently have left.

And that blunts its utility as an "immediate" argument to deploy against Brexit.

In the US, the couple have strong ties to the #Kochtopus network and libertarian Trump-funder Robert Mercer. In the UK, they have strong ties to the remnants of the Leave campaign, and a network of groups lobbying for mass deregulation post-Brexit based out of #TuftonStreet

1/ chequers shows there is unlikely to be a deal acceptable to the EU and the europhobes in the tory party #Brexit so its likely that no deal #Brexit is the only available #Brexit and therefore there is unlikely to be a choice of deal or no deal to start with
2/ if May does comeback with a deal it will need labour support to pass Labour would have to choose between backing it thus forgoing any chance of bringing down the government and thus the GE they say they want and angering the labour movement or voting it down

3/ Before the referendum Dominic Raab was one of the Tory MPs making it clear that there would be Tory calls for a 2nd referendum (a straight replay) in the event of a #Remain victory. He had the generosity to say that it shouldn't take place for at least 2 years.

Jaguar Land Rover recently agreed 2 build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, same company who trashed our steel industry & emptied workers pension funds.
