Am I surprised? No!
1) It is transmitted by Mosquitoes (Our Roommates)!
2) In Nigeria, we bribe our way through, get yellow cards without actually being vaccinated and we feel Cool about it!

A single dose of the vaccine is effective. In 80% of people it gives immunity within 10days. And in about 90% gives immunity in 30 days from dose.

It is a Viral Haemorrhagic fever. Meaning there is fever and Bleeding from orifices just like Lassa and Ebola, in late cases.

Symptoms include:
Fever
head ache

Losing our 20 year old son to a car accident in Feb is something that we will never recover from. Getting notification that i was shortlisted for VC job just 2 days before the burial and then coming back to work to face the excruciating recruitment process was just too much!
Thank God I survived! I am grateful to all the colleagues & friends - for the hugs, encouraging messages, reassuring conversations & smiles. They helped me keep my head up. Thanks to all the very many amazing people at UCT who came through for me during my time of need 🙏🏾

2018 began with some trepidation as #Nigeria's economy failed to take off, and familiar sounds of discontent began to surface.

In the political space, questions mounted about whether the coalition that brought @MBuhari to power 3 years earlier would hold firm.

It didn't.
Meanwhile, the year, 2018, would go down as the year when @AsoRock's claims about having a lid on security issues were revealed to be mostly empty.
The year began with an escalation of #PastoralConflict, with tit-for-tat killings across 5 states, and a tepid reaction from @AsoRock.

This culminated in the unsightly scenario of one of #Nigeria's most prominent citizens asking his tribesmen to defend themselves.

I have thus far refrained from talking about Jubril al-Sudani, because it is bunkum, and I was quite glad that @MBuhari had also ignored it, or, appeared to have.

Until yesterday.

Now he has spoken, and the cat has been set amongst the pigeons as it were.
Three threads to this story:

1 — Jubril al-Sudani is the creation of a delusional and likely insane Nnamdi Kanu. Unfortunately, the story was given strength by the information gap that @MBuhari’s long absences generated when he went for his meds.
If his media team had been honest with Nigerians about what is wrong with our president, we won’t have had to deal with this. Lesson — when there is an information gap, people will fill it with something. Natura abhorret vacuum.

This thread is important because it speaks to a certain truth - countries like #Nigeria and the like do not matter in real terms.

What the rest of the world is concerned about when it comes to us is simple - containment.
A look at the global sub-national HDI map tells you all that you need to know. We are in a very bad neighbourhood, and I fear that we may not be coming out of these woods in the near future.
Add to that this - Africa's share of global exports in 2016 as per @wto is 2.4%!

In real terms what this means is that we can disappear from the planet, and the remaining 97.6% of the global economy will simply keep moving along without missing us.
