JAMES WOOLSEY: LIVE FREE -- OR ELSE
Making the world more dangerous in the name of 'human rights'

A thread about the role of James Woolsey in the colour revolutions of the early 2000’s.

In January 2003, James Woolsey was named chairman of Freedom House.

3\

Freedom House is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1941 by Eleanor Roosevelt and Wendell Wilkie (GOP candidate for president in 1940).

The organization's stated mission is to promote democratic values and oppose dictatorships.
4\

Freedom House is federally funded. The organization’s budget increased from $12 million a year to $20 million during Woolsey’s 2.5 year stint as chairman.
5\

During Woolsey’s brief tenure, there were 6 different colour revolutions around the world:

🔹 Rose (Georgia)

🔹Orange (Ukraine)

🔹 Purple (Iraq)

🔹 Tulip (Kyrgyzstan)

🔹 Cedar (Lebanon)

🔹 Blue (Kuwait)
6\

Of the 6 colour revolutions, the Orange Revolution in Ukraine was unquestionably the most important.

The blueprint for the Orange Revolution was established in Serbia in 1999.
7\

This article from the Washington Post goes into great detail about the western organized campaign to oust Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic.

8\

The US State Dept funded the NGOs that coordinated the opposition to Milosevic.
9\

The NGOs worked with a group of young Serbian radicals called Otpor.

(In English, “Optor” means

...wait for it….

....”Resistance”)

If you only read one article on the Orange Revolution, then make it this one from the late Ian Traylor, published in The Guardian.

It was written as the the events of the revolution unfolded in November 2004..

Regime change in Ukraine was a DC bipartisan effort.
12\

The DC Uniparty operation to oust an undesirable foreign leader through the use of NGOs and the activism of naive young people is termed the Regime Change Deluxe by @avery1776.
13\

Here’s one of several excellent threads (with awesome infographics) on the topic.

14\

Woolsey’s Freedom House was representing the GOP establishment.

Along with the National Democratic Institute, Freedom House orchestrated fake exit polls as part of the propaganda push in Ukraine.
15\

The western-backed candidate, Viktor Yushchenko, was initially defeated in the 2004 presidential election.

When protests forced a second election, Yushchenko was victorious.
16\

In 2010, Yushchenko lost to Victor Yanukovych, a politician from the pro-Russian, eastern section of Ukraine.

The Orange Revolution failed to provide a lasting result acceptable to western governments, setting the stage for the Euromaidan protests in 2013.

In a remarkably candid interview with Radio Free Europe in Oct 2005, Woolsey proudly admited his involvement in the colour revolutions and he named his chief nemesis, Vladimir Putin.

Freedom House releases an annual report giving each nation a “freedom rating.”

It was during Woolsey’s tenure as chairman that Russia’s classification was changed to “unfree.”

19\

In discussing the causes for fall of the Soviet Union, Woolsey is completely oblivious to the irony that he, the biggest cheerleader for US military intervention around the globe, is accusing Soviet leaders of hubris for believing they could conquer Afghanistan.
20\

Woolsey gave credit to Radio Free Europe for its role in undermining the Soviet Union.
21\

What Woolsey didn't say is that when Radio Free Europe was privatized, George Soros purchased a significant stake in RFE.

nytimes.com/1994/03/20/wor…
22\

When asked about the prospects for democracy in Belarus, Woolsey worried that the country will be an “extremely hard nut to crack.”
23\

Or as Vladimir Lenin once said, “You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs."

According to the Woolsey Doctrine, “freedom” is spread by similar means as communism.
24\

Woolsey suggests that NGOs are good because Putin hates them and the US should do exactly the opposite of what Putin wants.

(How far do we take this logic? What if Putin opposes ISIS? Should the US support ISIS?)
26\

While most people will agree that the fall of the Soviet Union was positive, especially since it occurred without the use of tanks and missiles, it needs to be asked at what point is pursuing regime change in foreign countries harmful.
27\

Putin filled the vacuum left after the fall of the Soviet Union. Now we’re told he’s a fascist who’s meddling in our elections.
28\

But who’s say the leader to emerge if Putin is overthrown won’t be more adversarial and dangerous? How does destabilizing a nuclear power make the world safer for freedom and democracy?
29\

Perhaps the most important question is -- what’s to stop the Regime Change Deluxe from being employed against our own elected president?
30\

Finally, if Woolsey believes Putin is such a terrible tyrant, why did he join the Trump campaign when he knew Trump had expressed a desire to “get along very well” with Putin?
