Today, the Supreme Court granted a Trump Administration request to begin implementing a ban on transgendered Americans serving in the military as cases move through the courts.

This isn’t just a slight. It is the justice system wielded as a tool of hate.

In a perfect world, trans members of our military would get their fair due from the Commander in Chief they serve under.

Respect. Appreciation. Admiration.

Instead, years of sacrifice and honorable service - whole careers - are now poised to be severed in service of bigotry.

I have never served.

I’ve never put myself in harms way or spent holidays deployed far away from friends and family.

I’ve never faced the barriers of living in a world sometimes quicker to hate than accept me.

Today’s decision isn’t final but I can only imagine how painful and searing it must be for trans Americans both in and out of the military.

It is a product of a bigoted man’s petty cruelties.

It is the worst of us not a representation of us.

I have been very fortunate to be blessed with the love and friendship of members of the LGBTQ community.

My life has been made immeasurably better for the gift of those relationships.

I was with you then. I’m with you now. I’ll be with you tomorrow.

I see you and love you.

Tonight, I’m drawing you close in my thoughts. Tomorrow, I’ll be drawing close by your side.

Your fight is mine until it is won. And it will be.
