Like clockwork, narratives are starting to cement about Kamala Harris' time as CA Attorney General, painting her as some sort of win-obsessed, out-of-control prosecutor.

I'm all for vetting her record but half of what I'm seeing her accused of is misleading or an outright lie.
The truth is that, while Harris was working in a hard-charging culture where she, as a woman of color, constantly was made to prove she was "tough on crime" by critics, her record as a whole shows she was one of the most liberal AGs in America.
On criminal justice, Harris developed the "Back on Track" anti-recidivism program, years ahead of when it became a fashionable issue.

She made data on police shootings public, and created a first-of-its-kind statewide program on implicit bias training for law enforcement.
Harris was also one of the toughest attorneys general in the country on predatory lending.

She nearly walked out of the National Mortgage Settlement because the proposed damages to victims of the financial crisis, $2B, weren't enough. She got it up to $25B.
Harris didn't stop there, either — she then worked hand in hand with the California legislature to create the Homeowners' Bill of Rights, banning abuses like "dual-tracked" mortgages and making it harder for banks to abuse borrowers.
Harris also helped secure a $1.1 billion judgment against Corinthian Colleges, a predatory for-profit college chain that preyed on poor people and saddled them with student debt for worthless degrees. Corinthian subsequently shut down.
AND, while she was doing all this, Harris vigorously defended the Affordable Care Act and state gun laws, and *refused* to defend Proposition 8.
Do I think Harris should be challenged on her record, particularly issues she's evolved on like the three-strikes law and review of prosecutorial misconduct? Sure.

But an honest reading of her record shows she used her legal power to champion progressive causes at every turn.
