1. In September 2014, ISIS released this execution video, featuring a narrator speaking in what sounded like a Canadian accent. 
2. His identity remained a mystery, and then last fall @AmarAmarasingam and myself interviewed a captured Canadian ISIS fighter who said the narrator was from Ontario and went by Abu Ridwan.
3. Subsequently, the open source research group @iBRABO_com began trying to figure out where the video was filmed, since it was a crime scene, possibly containing evidence needed to prosecute the Canadian.
4. @iBRABO_com analysed the video frame by frame, matching features in the background with aerial photos.
5. The researchers had to use historical aerial images because, since the video was filmed, the site had been targeted by coalition airstrikes. See the pics below for before and after.
6. The general location was already familiar to some, because of the distinctive military barracks in the background. But @iBRABO_com pinpointed, with a high degree of confidence, the exact execution site, which is possibly a mass grave.
7. While @iBRABO_com was doing this, the SDF arrested an ISIS fighter who said he was a Canadian. @AmarAmarasingam has since identified him as the narrator of the video.
