Hi @OnnMel, we respect different opinions, and we condemn the abuse that you’ve received for your tweet since Monday. It’s never acceptable to use that kind of language for any reason. Despite this, we have a few problems with your list...

The will of the British people cannot ‘overturn’ the will of the British people. Nobody voted for Theresa May’s deal (or “Norway+”), and it has shockingly low support in both Parliament and the country.
This is simply untrue. There are thousands of grassroot volunteers in leave-voting areas all across the country, as well as those within the campaign (@Femi_Sorry) who have spent two years travelling and listening to leave voters.
The two largest surveys conducted since the referendum; Survation in November and YouGov in January (both over 20,000 people) showed a 54% majority for Remain. This change in opinion has occurred despite both major parties, and most of the media, backing Brexit.
There has been extensive consideration of the ballot paper. One of the main purposes of this campaign is to ensure all options on the ballot are clearly defined and deliverable. However, ultimately Parliament and the Electoral Commission will decide, not a grassroots campaign.
No matter what happens next, we will have to extend A50. The EU have said that if we want to extend A50, we need a purpose to - like a #PeoplesVote, or a change in the red lines. Given May’s stubbornness, the only way to get an extension is a People’s Vote telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/…
Whilst this is true, it is a technical issue. The EU has consistently shown that where there is a political will, they will find a way forward. This is a hurdle that will have to be negotiated (and solutions have been proposed), but it is a speed-bump rather than a roadblock.
This is either misinformed or deliberately deceptive. Our ‘Roadmap to a #PeoplesVote’, published in September explicitly states that Article 50 should be extended. PV-friendly MPs are expected to vote in favour of Yvette Cooper’s amendment securing this. d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/in/pages/17059…
There is not. Which is exactly how it should be. Holding a referendum because you are ‘guaranteed to win’ is not the way democracy works. There is no guarantee Labour would win the next election, let alone ‘convincingly’, but Labour is more than happy to call for one.
Again, this has been extensively debated. @OFOCBrexit take the view that 16 y/o should be enfranchised for a such a long-term decision, as they were in Scotland in 2014. However, again, this is the decision of Parliament and the electoral commission - not a grassroots campaign.
By design, preferential voting produces an outright majority for one choice. It is widely used across Europe and easily understood by voters. We believe it is condescending to the electorate to describe requiring us to consider more than two options as being ‘overcomplicated’.
‘No Deal’ leave supporters have every right to participate in a #PeoplesVote and, provided it can put forward a coherent, negotiable plan, it will be included on the ballot. The UK is not governed at the behest of those unable to respect democracy as a continuous process.
There is no Brexit deal that can deliver on the promises made in the 2016 referendum. In light of new information, people have the right to change their mind. Not including the most popular option according to current polling would be utterly pointless and undemocratic.
As MP for Great Grimsby it is your duty to deliver for your constituents. Genuine question then @OnnMel, what tangible benefits would your preferred version of Brexit offer for your constituents, that we don’t already have inside the EU?
On the 9th of June 2015, @OnnMel voted for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU (despite this not being in Labour’s manifesto). Why then, if not now - in a time of genuine national crisis - was it appropriate to defer to the public?
Thank you again @OnnMel for having the bravery to come forward and offer your reasons for opposing a PV. It is vital in the coming weeks that many more Labour MPs are open and honest with their intentions, one way or the other. We look forward to your response to our points.
