I just read @DExEUgov's response to the petition for a #PeoplesVote. Of course they trashed the idea: 'The British people must be able to trust in its Government both to effect their will, and to deliver the best outcome for them. As the Prime Minister has said: “This is about 1/
more than the decision to leave the EU; it is about whether the public can trust their politicians to put in place the decision they took.” Erm hang on that makes no sense. What decision was that exactly? Just 'leave' with no further meaning? 2/
What sort of govt doesn't want to check that meaning? For that matter what sort of govt implements a non-binding opinion poll as the permanent, non-changing 'will of the people'? Why do they get to interpret that & fix it in stone? The 'will of the people' after all 3/
would be for the @Conservatives to stop defunding the NHS and to have much greater mental health services, for Sure Start centres not to be wiped out everywhere, but those issues aren't apparently worthy of the Goebbels line. Given our voting system never 4/

succumb to their wishes, even though when they fail they fall into incredibly well paid positions & are rewarded for contributing to the collapse of the country. My clueless aunt once demanded a reason why she shouldn't vote Leave. I said there wasn't a single argument 7/
why she should. She whinged for hours in return but of course she couldn't pick an argument to legitimately make a case for Leave. Why? There isn't one. But she reads the Murdoch press and believes every word like it's in the Bible. But she's 80 or so. 8/
She believes the EU is undemocratic, but a) it's not and b) we have a fucking royal family & an upper parliamentary chamber with fucking clerics in it. Is that the 'will of the people' too? I hate this country I really do, so many morons who've never embraced the future. 9/
Our voting system needs urgent reform, as do our parliamentary bodies. @DExUKgov aren't even interested that #VoteLeaveBrokeTheLaw, nor the Met it seems. And without free movement the interaction we've enjoyed with our closest neighbours will become strained, all to 10/
accommodate the hurt feelings of a bunch of gammons. Women? Who cares about them? Young people? Shut it, you metrocentric elitist, they'll be happy picking strawberries and enforcing martial law when the ports freeze & just-in-time supply networks collapse. We won the war! 11/
I've had enough & it's a difficult decision as to what to do next - cut out Leavers from my life? Tempting but their absence of compassion is the problem, and meeting them on that level will only make it worse. Leave the UK? Where to? America? Trump Land? I'm worried. 12/
The future is becoming a scary prospect for the first time in my adult life, as progress is hammered on both sides of the Atlantic, and Enlightenment values are trashed by those who profit from it & the morons who can't think for themselves. Anyone else feel the same? end/
