1/ Let's play a game of WHAT IF?. Let's imagine the EU referendum had gone the other way, and remained just edged a win. What would have happened?
2/ Farage et al would have complained about remain tactics and the 9 million point leaflet. They would crucially have said the narrowness of the vote mandates a 'this far, no further'🛑 approach to the EU - no euro, no Schengen, no EU army.
3/ Tory backbenchers would now be saying that the vote must be respected, but there can be no further move towards integration.
4/ some eu-federalists like Guy Verhofstadt would of course have tried to represent the narrow 'remain' vote to push for more integration, saying that by voting for remain, the British public endorsed an EU army, ode to joy and ever closer union.
5/ getting back to reality, the narrow vote to leave meant that the UK should adopt a moderate brexit, "moving out of the house, but staying in the same neighborhood" as @SKinnock puts it. We have been promoting this for years. What do you think? /End
