The dirty little secret bubbling under the cascade of Virginia scandals is that Democrats view their dependent voting blocs with a fair degree of contempt. White leftists look down on classes of people who supposedly need government help to survive.
This is one of the reasons left-wingers are so vicious, and often casually racist or sexist, toward minorities and women who become outspoken conservatives. Pent-up contempt explodes and becomes a torrent of venom against impudent political "traitors" who don't know their place.
Sure, the Left constantly rails against the evils of white men, but their view of history is also profoundly arrogant - they think white men and the nations they built are the only actors on the world stage who truly have agency. Everyone else is just reacting to their deeds.
To the committed leftist, every group except white men is fundamentally infantile: helpless victims who can't live their lives or find true "justice" without the heavy hand of all-powerful maternal government helping them.
White men and their nations are the main characters in the human story to left-wingers. Everyone else is a supporting character. The main characters are mostly evil villains, mind you, except for the enlightened left-wingers struggling to purify them.
When you absolve people of responsibility for their actions and relieve them of the burden of agency, you also strip them of dignity. You infantilize them, which inevitably leads even people who imagine themselves to be paragons of compassion to view them with contempt. /end
