THREAD. If we lived in a more serious media moment, news outlets would deploy investigative journalists to look into a) the history of terrorist bombings, sniper attacks, assassinations & other activities of the more extreme & violent segment of the Venezuelan opposition.
B) The links-- personal, political, clandestine-- links between the violent extremist segment & @jguaido & others who participated in the violent guarimbas, some of which resulted in beheading cyclists, shooting & killing govt & pro govt people & blowing up child care facilities
& other infrastructure that, if lost, makes life more difficult for the country. C) Deploy teams of journalists to look at the more- than- likely pipeline between US- backed Colombian military & paramilitary operations who have the kinds of C4 explosives, guns & other weapons
used & talked about by @LORENT_SALEH (see bit.ly/2WN5T6t) & others in the militant arm of the opposition. D) provide readers & audiences a timeline that includes the history of US funding, political support & covert operations carried out under the auspices of
Andean region intelligence services like those run during the 2002 Vzla coup by operatives like Hugo Llorens, who just happened to be the ambassador to Honduras during the 2009 coup there. E) Do FOIAs of State Dept & other agencies operating in Venezuela & Colombia, focusing on
meeting between @jguaido & other members of @VoluntadPopular & affiliated youth groups & US & Colombian extremists like former Colombian president @AlvaroUribeVel, whose network is closely linked to the violent, right wing extremists in the Venezuelan opposition.
The lack of commitment to this kind of work by Latin America bureaus turns much of the US media reporting on Venezuela into the cheerleading squad using Trump State Dept talking points in their gushing portrayals of Guaido & the opposition. We need real reporting. Badly.
