The right wing, determined to see a woman beater in every Muslim man, seem to celebrate crimes vs Muslim women. The “community,” always led by men, usually downplay crimes vs Muslim women. Given the choice between the "community" and the sister, we must always choose the sister.
In US, shortly before launch of Musawah, a Muslim man beheaded his wife,who’d filed for divorce & obtained restraining order a week before police found her body.Soon after,a culture war erupted btwn anti-Muslim right wing & Muslim apologists over who can save us poor Muslim women
And so to be there, in Kuala Lumpur, 10 years ago along with Muslim women from across the world, as Islamic feminist scholars like Amina Wadud and feminist activists like Zainah Anwar launched @musawah was the best possible way of saying WE CAN SAVE OURSELVES! Happy 10th, Musawah
