Even American firms follow the EU's rules on Data Protection to simplify global business. Companies like Facebook and Apple have taken on the EU GDPR. And they're literally half a world away.
The EU sets most of the rules for OUR continent. And we're choosing to give up our seat.

When you say "I want the Brexit I voted for", despite knowing that others voted for different ones, you're saying "I know that my Brexit version was probably voted for by fewer people than voted Remain, but I want the country to do it anyway."
Now I was about to follow this tweet up by saying "and those who want Brexit have have 3 years to agree among themselves what Brexit they want", but it's worse than that!
They've had 20 YEARS to agree on some kind of Brexit that respected the Good Friday Agreement! They haven't.
If any version of Brexit actually happens, it will be a Brexit that has less democratic legitimacy than staying in the EU, because it will not be what all of the 52% wanted.
Not by a long shot!

She said this at a time when the country needed (still does) politicians to stamp out the racism that Brexit 'legitimised'. Instead she dog-whistled, by mixing the legitimate need for change with the above Nationalism.

My personal view (irrelevant I know) is that Shamima Begum is morally repugnant, but to remove the British Citizenship from someone who was made a child bride to a terrorist at 15...
While she *may* be Bangladeshi too, I must have missed her trial...
I'm sure many of us have a long list of things we would love to do to rapists & child-killers etc. But Rule of Law means our justice system doesn't act emotionally.
I've been wishing for evidence to support jailing her since the start. I HOPE we haven't done this without it.
I do feel like we need to remember who we're supposed to be as a people. I've heard some interesting views on the topic.

Overheard in the barbers:
A) Just kill her.
B) But she was a child when she married the guy
C) Fine. Wait till she's 20, then kill her.

1. I'm not really interested in the respective technical arguments for a customs union because it is predominantly a moral issue. #Brexit thread
2. It can be argued that we need it for the preferential rules of origin regime to protect jobs in the car industry etc. But by prioritising global multinationals we are dispensing with one of the fundamentals of Brexit ie "Take back control".
3. Y'see, Tories have trade all wrong. Brexit isn't about dashing off into the blue yonder to sign a stack of FTAs we wouldn't get otherwise. At best we are going to have to run fast just to stand still. We can do some optimisation but nothing that really offsets Brexit damage.

A brief thread about the big lie told to working class voters.

There has always been a strong latent undercurrent of racism in U.K. I grew up in a working class family where the gags of Davidson & Manning about black & Indian stereotypes were accepted.
Other races were regarded in that community as inferior. Sometimes tolerated, IF they behaved like us, even welcomed, but never on an equal footing. You still hear it in pubs and football terraces, it never went away.
For me, it was Tony Blair who finally excised the racist DNA I carried. For years, I exaggerated my “Toryness” - the party I had adopted against all family tradition because it stood for getting ahead. I barked about the EU, with its feeble minded “foreign” thinking.

#1: When the UK voted leave, many said the EU would be weakened. Today it is clear that the contrary is true: it’s the UK not the EU that has been weakened by Brexit.
#2a Whatever people say, it would have been possible for Britain to change its mind about Brexit. Many political decisions, even after referenda, have been reversed in many countries.
