Today is the day we call #DayofRemembrance, to commemorate the day 77 years ago that defined my life. On that day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which imprisoned my family and me simply because we looked like the people that bombed Pearl Harbor.
I remember the barbed-wire fence that confined me for four years from ages 5 to 8. I have memories of sentry towers with machine guns pointed at me. I remember the searchlights that followed me when I made the night runs from my barrack to the latrine.
It is Executive Order 9066 that made me a social and political activist dedicated to preventing such miscarriages of justice ever again. Roosevelt was a great President. But he was also a fallible human. A great President can also make great mistakes.

Judging from my feed, a lot of good folks out there could use some bucking up ahead of tomorrow's midterms. I, for one, am optimistic. People have said that's naive, that old-fashioned liberals like me always put too much faith in people only to be let down. Some thoughts: /1
I spent my childhood being told one thing about America, but living something entirely different. We were taught that we were equal under the law, and we pledged allegiance to a flag, but inside of barbed wire fences. The promise of America was so hollow as to be meaningless. /2
But my father once told me that America is a democracy, as great as the people who inhabit it, but also as fallible. It was the people who had failed us, led by leaders who had crushed our dreams, caused the nation to rise up in fear against us, who were wholly innocent. /3

Trump boasts that the troops he is deploying at our border will turn back any migrants who seek to cross it. This is not only morally reprehensible, it is illegal. Why? Because we have laws that require us to process and accept refugees who seek asylum here. A history: /1
During World War II (Yes, I was around then, but in an internment camp) the United States and many other nations turned away Jewish refugees who sought to escape the Holocaust. Those refugees perished in death camps. The horror of that led us to declare "Never Again." /2
Part of that pledge was for the nations of the world, including the United States, to agree to accept refugees who were fleeing persecution at home. We would never again turn away groups of people who were being subjected to violence and death in their own countries. /3

Today in 1942 President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, under which nearly 75,000 American citizens of Japanese ancestry were taken into custody. Another 45,000 Japanese nationals living in the United States were also incarcerated. #DayOfRemembrance #EO9066 A black and white photograph of a family moving their things out to the street.
#EO9066 was issued ten weeks after Pearl Harbor. Toku Shimomura of Seattle described the news of the attack in her diary, writing “Our future has become gloomy. I pray that God will stay with us.” #DayOfRemembrance A diary with Japanese writing inside.
Three months after Pearl Harbor, Americans of Japanese ancestry and Japanese nationals living on the Pacific Coast and in southern Arizona were ordered to register and then report within a week to hastily designated temporary detention centers. #EO9066 #DayOfRemembrance Exclusion Orders 69, showing were Japanese citizens would have to leave the area.

06/01/2019 - 78 years ago today, the longest-serving #UnitedStates #President, #Franklin D. #Roosevelt (#FDR) addressed the 77th #Congress with his "#Four #Freedoms" speech with the intent to shift #US #foreign #policy from that of #neutrality to #interventionist.
#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.

It is NOT the United States’ Dollar. It is the Federal Reserve’s Dollar. The Private Bank known as the FED is responsible for repayment of the Dollar Debt Notes.

The US only borrowed notes from the Fed. The US took loans from A Private Bank.

What did they pledge as collateral?
“THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND TEN DOLLARS”

If this Federal Reserve NOTE, promises to pay the bearer Ten Dollars, this means the Note itself is NOT Ten Dollars, but only a note representing Ten Dollars.

So then, what is the Ten Dollars?
A US Dollar is a Coin NOT a Promissory Bill or Debt Note!

The Coinage Act of 1792 created the United States dollar as the country's standard unit of money.

This act established the silver dollar as the unit of money in the United States, declared it to be lawful tender.
