Hi guys! @AtteHarjanne and me just published a paper "Abandoning the concept of #renewable #energy" at Energy Policy. In it, we argue that the concept of #renewableenergy (RE) is outdated. 1/

What we argue here is that using what is basically a 1970s-era definition of renewable energy, and conflating "renewable" with "sustainable" or even "clean," is becoming more a hindrance than a help in meeting the main challenge of the early 2000s - #climatechange . 2/
We argue that the concept of RE was largely set in stone well before the magnitude of #climate challenge, and actual problems with some sources that are technically renewable, was understood. This has resulted to, e.g., using the "renewable" label to cover all bioenergy. 3/

So I've spent a sleepless night estimating potential climate impacts from increased automation. Assuming it effectively increases worker productivity and that we need to find new jobs for the unemployed, very modest increases in productivity tip us over to climate catastrophe.
What I did was to use a great model developed by Jorgen Randers for his book 2052, available in Excel form from the book's website, and toyed around with productivity figures. Randers assumes productivity growth will stop and hence we'll stay below 3 degrees.
Simply assuming that global productivity growth is 50% higher than Randers assumed (that is, on average about 3% per year from now on), we'll definitely breach 3 degrees and enter the "here be dragons" territory. A more thorough automation revolution could easily add much more!

One of our attorneys, Kat Russell, is sitting in a car park outside the Pearsall Detention center waiting for Sara.

Sara is a 21 y/old indigenous Keqchi woman from Guatemala & is about to be released after 9 months.

Tomorrow she will be reunited w/her 5 y/old daughter, Alida.
Alida was released to her dad in Houston in early June but because Alida went to live with her dad, Sara lost all of the protections of the "Ms. L" lawsuit.

It meant that she was not eligible to be reunified with her daughter or even to get a new credible fear interview.
Before making the long journey to the U.S. border, Sara was brutally attacked in Guatemala on account of being an indigenous woman, and Alida witnessed much of the violence against her mom.

I think, it's possible that I have a penchant for punishing myself for things that are oft beyond my control.
Infact, it's almost safe to say that I have a craving for beating myself up for not living up to my own expectations.
And that's a dangerous thing because it could mean that I deliberately sabotage myself just so i can beat myself up. It's wild thinking but it's quite possible.

You know what connects Paul Manafort and (founder of the Federalist) Ben Domenech? Fact-Based Communications (FBC Media).

FBC media did PR disguised as journalism paid for by the Malaysian government. Ben Domenech was a subcontractor for that work.

Trevino's subcontractor Ben Domenech made $36,000 from the arrangement.

They called what they were doing journalism. It was really a PR campaign.
