I did a completely justifiable amount of work today but I've not accomplished a commensurate amount of success.
This is the inherent tension in my job--the successes are most often quite distant and thus seemingly unconnected to the effort that went into them. The opposite of more pedestrian but somehow more satisfying tasks.
That's why I found my experiment of driving for @Uber to be almost therapeutic. Very direct, immediate relationship between the effort put forth, and (in the case of Uber) getting paid. Almost the exact opposite of my real job.
