So angry. @MMSDschools continues to fail black, brown & disabled youth. Despite multiple recent incidents of racial violence against kids as young as 11, they just approved “random” metal detector screenings. Guess who is most likely to be targeted? 🤔

Black kids. Brown kids. Disabled kids. Poor kids. Kids already being harassed by cops in schools will be furthered targeted based on appearance alone. We demand #NoCopsInSchools! We will fight to #ProtectOurKids in @CityofMadison.
There is a meeting tonight to build our local capacity to respond to these incidents & make long term plans to protect marginalized youth at the Boys & Girl’s Club of Madison (Taft St) at 6pm.
Remember to also join, support, or contribute to @AboutFreedomInc whose Youth Squad has been fighting these battles for years. And in April, all Madison residents need to vote for @AliMuldrow & @amirilli for school board.
In this moment we can leave no method for liberation unused: speak at school board meetings, protest, talk on social media, organize, educate, and vote. Do everything you can to protect racialized & disabled youth in #MadisonWI. #NoCopsInSchools

Since this fool wants to come for my comedy crush @nicolebyer let’s break down ALL the issues with this foolish ass thread.
1: I’ve watched every episode of @NailedIt & to claim that Nicole Byer is only nice to black contestants is frankly a lie. However, even if that were the case, consider that this is a highly edited reality TV show which means editors choose which parts of her behavior we see.
2: Mr. Flores seems to lack a fundamental understanding of what #racism is so let’s review, shall we? Racism is fundamentally a belief that one’s own race is superior, however, in critical race theory, scholars also assert that racism must be combined with systemic power to work.

Having a hard time focusing today. But currently listening to @BYP_100’s Black Joy Experience album (h/t @QueerWOCpod) & crying. I’ve been crying a lot lately. My body seems to be processing something my mind isn’t yet fully conscious of. So I’m paying attention to what moves me.

I need someone with time & skills to do a detailed discourse analysis of the responses to @SelmaBlair’s #OscarAwards look on social media. It for now here’s my quick morning take, a thread particularly for nondisabled folks.
Among my #DisabilityRights, #disabilityjustice & #disabilitystudies comrades, there’s excitement about the power of representation. Blair’s look, like hashtags #DisabledAndCute & #DisabledPeopleAreHot, demonstrate disabled bodyminds & accoutrements like canes can be attractive
However, some of the general comments on images & stories of Blair, while seemingly “positive,” are DEEPLY #ableist in that they rely on notions of bravery, pity, overcoming & shock at the attractiveness of a disabled bodyminds. Let’s break down the problems with each response.

About #CVE

2/ “Countering Violent Extremism” or CVE is an Islamophobic program created by the Department of Homeland Security to justify increased surveillance of Muslim communities, and therefore increase criminalization.
3/ CVE infiltrates Muslim communities disguised as “mental health support” and “social services” through K-12 school programs and partnerships with universities, organizations, and mosques/religious institutions.

CVE often takes the shape of grant money.
