People writing political obituaries now should cast their minds back to the summer of 2015--and the Duffy trial.

Remember when the RCMP recommended charges against Nigel Wright--that vanished without a trace?

Remember when Wright & Senator Irving Gerstein plotted to intercept & manipulate an independent Senate audit of Duffy’s finances?

By having the CPC auditor from Deloitte "go down the hall” and chat with the Senate auditor from Deloitte?

That they tried but couldn’t get it done?

Remember how Wright had barred Duffy from cooperating with the audit--to have it blow up in his face when the auditor wouldn’t play along with the plan to doctor the results?

So the team worked feverishly thru the weekend to have the $90k repaid by the end of the audit period.

How there were 60 emails over that weekend--all orchestrated by Nigel Wright--to get the money repaid before the auditors reported.

How Cpl Horton (remember him) recommended that Wright be criminally charged?

NO YOU DON’T REMEMBER ANY OF IT.

You forgot it all by election day 3 months (!!) later.

When we had an election about niqabs.

It beggars the imagination that I’ve heard pundit after pundit declare that the current scandal is the worst they’ve ever seen.

Worse than an attempt by the PMO to doctor an independent audit?

Worse than the disappearance of reco'd charges against the scheme’s PMO architect?

Sadly, for all the hyperventilating today, I suspect that by summer today’s scandal will be a distant memory.

Could be wrong.

No question this was the stupidest and most foreseeably boneheaded call by a PM & team in oh, 5 or 6 years.
