Thinking about something at church today. Pastor always invites people forward for prayer toward end of the service if they need it. Late in it a younger couple stepped out of their row, walked to the front, paused because all the intercessors were taken. Probably felt awkward…
An older couple mine & Keith’s age, deeply loved at our church, didn’t miss a beat. They stepped out of their row & up to that couple, put their arms around them & led them over to the side of the sanctuary & I could see them praying. Nearly brought me to tears. Does even now...
So, what’s unusual about that? Nothing. That’s just it. Nothing. That’s our church. That’s what we do. Don’t tell me you can get that at home. Can’t get that from your screen. We need each other badly. The local church is in deep need of transformation, reformation, revival....
But she’s neither obsolete nor past her prime. Worth leaving home for. Worth fighting for. Sometimes fighting with. I do not believe there’s any replacement for a local church. She’s by no means all there is to faith like she was in my childhood but she’s crucial. Keep searching.
